Springfield Lobby Day

On April 30th we will be holding our Lobby Day at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield. This is our opportunity to display our collective strength and to voice our concerns about the issues we care about directly to our legislators.  To generate member participation in the Lobby Day in Springfield, the Invest in Excellence campaign is providing funding and logistical assistance to locals and regions that desire to travel via bus. Each regional office will have an office contact by March 12th who will help locals and regions secure transportation to and from Springfield.  Call the Region Office for more information on buses.

Check Out the Latest on the State Budget!

The Illinois Education Association puts out a frequent bulletin called "The Capitol Buzz" to update members on the latest in the ongoing saga of the State of Illinois Budget.  Click here for more details.

We are an organization of over 3000 members dedicated to advocating for public education, educators, education support professionals in schools, and the children, parents and communities we serve.  Region 40 locals are affiliates of the Illinois Education Association.  Our members are part of the 2.7 million members of our parent organization, the National Education Association.

Our local associations serve as recognized bargaining agents for the teachers and the educational support professionals who are members.  The Region Office provides for a voice in our parent organizations, and staff assistance to the locals.  The UniServ staff is responsible for delivering the resources of the organization to improve member compensation, terms and conditions of employment, rights and benefits and the development of strong local affiliates.  Region officers serve as the connection to the democratic operations of the IEA and NEA, with the Region Chair serving on the IEA Board of Directors.

All locals can take advantage of the available resources such as training in negotiations, organizational development, exercising employment protections, grievance processing and personal/professional development.  All members enjoy legal representation in professional matters.  All members can participate in the legislative lobbying activities of the organizations.
