This year the executive committee met to plan the activities/events for the 2008-09 school year and have compiled the following descriptors for the committees that will be in place for this year.

 

Elections:  The main purpose of this committee is to oversee the election of regional officers (next election will be 2011) and delegates to the state and national representative assemblies.  The Election Committee ensures that all election rules and procedures are followed.  This committee meets approximately four to five times a year.  The  purpose of the first meeting (in August) is to establish the election plan for the upcoming school year.  Regional Council members vote to adopt this plan at the September meeting.  The remaining meetings are to stuff and count ballots.  It is helpful to have members who live in or near Rushville to serve on this committee.

 

Legislative:  The regional committee's main functions are to stay apprised of legislative action that affects education and to disseminate current legislative information to our members.  In conjunction with our Grassroots Political Activist (GPA), the committee will organize meetings and special events with our local Senator and Representatives, such as Lobby Day.  This committee will meet in September, October, January, and any additional times as needed.

 

Organizational Planning:  The duties of this committee include:  planning Membership Kick-Off, Honors Banquet, and Regional Picnic; recommends for approval by Regional Council the Local Involvement Incentive Points; and finding ways to support our locals in the recruitment and retention of new members.  It traditionally meets in July, February and March.

 

Scholarship:  This committee is responsible for screening applicants and selecting a scholarship recipient.  It is also in charge of the fundraising tasks needed to provide the scholarship money.  This committee usually meets in September and February.  There may be additional meetings if it is a fundraising year.
