Student Mentoring

Are you ready, willing and able to mentor others? Are you emotionally and psychologically prepared to invest time and effort in helping another person? If you make the commitment, you will find the personal satisfaction well worth the time and effort expended.

Mentors must believe in the value of their work. If you have, or can develop, a freely giving nature, you will probably be mentoring for all your life - probably without thinking much about it.

Mentoring is, at its foundation, a friendly, helping, informal relationship. Mentoring can range from a spur of the moment intervention to an intense long-term relationship. The mentor must assess the need(s) - recognizing that conditions and interest may need to be appraised from time to time.

The Student/Retired mentoring program is designed to give assistance to an IEA student member majoring in education with intentions of becoming a teacher. The students entering the mentoring program may be a college freshman or are in the final stages of their preparatory teaching education. The mentor must assess the mentees' needs as of the moment.
