By now, I’m sure you have all heard about the Race to the Top. We know it could bring hundreds of millions of dollars to Illinois schools. Congratulations to all who worked so diligently on the picket line and at the bargaining table in Prairie-Hills District 144. The strike was settled Monday and school resumed today. Read more on the IEA website.
Budget Open Hearings
There will be a regional hearing on the proposed 2010-2011 IEA budget in your area in January. Plan to attend; visit the IEA website for specific locations and times. A final budget proposal will be presented and voted upon at the 2010 IEA Representative Assembly in March.
NEA Foundation Award nominations accepted now
Here’s your chance to nominate an excellent educator for The NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence. We’re looking for candidates who are creative, student-focused, diversity-sensitive and supportive, dedicated to life-long learning, and advocates for public education.
Five educators nominated by their peers will receive expenses-paid travel to the Horace Mann Awards for Teaching Excellence, in Washington D.C. , held in conjunction with the NEA Foundation’s Annual Salute to Excellence in Education. The NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence recipient, selected from the five, receives $25,000 in cash and a commemorative gift. The finalist for the national award receive $10,000 cash.
