We have an education jobs emergency!
Across the country, 300,000 educators might receive “pink slips” for the next school year
Here in Illinois, it’s estimated as many as 20,000 education employees could be laid off due to the state budget crisis.
The implications of these layoffs are dire for our nation’s economic strength and, most importantly, for our children’s future. Here’s what you can do:
- Read NEA’s Education Jobs packet, highlighting the urgent need for immediate action
- Take Action: Click this link and urge Congress to support the insertion of funding to save education jobs in the emergency supplemental appropriations bill.
- Read President Obama’s letter to U.S. Senate and House leaders urging their prompt action in support of teachers, students, small businesses, public workers, and other essential programs to sustain and support the economy.

I’m dreading to see the June unemployment rate in Illinois. How is this jumpstarting our economy in Illinois much less the nation’s? You would think that hearing from 133,000 IEA members and 3.2 million NEA members would wake them up, but it won’t happen unless we do our part and contact our state and federal legislators! IEA/NEA has made is so simple, click a few times and your done! Please let’s not let our students down, as our legislators have. Let’s stop the madness! Contact yours today, I did!
Our state legislatures have mishandled our tax dollars. It is time for legislators to listen to your people and be accountable. Support our schools as promised without tax hikes.
Save our children and their education. Their futures are in your hands. Do what is right for education.
