Candidates Running for School Board District 200

Election in Oak Park and River Forest  April 7, 2009

Oak Park and River Forest High School (Click on the names below to read the candidate position papers.)  There are four open positions for the school board.

For the third consecutive election, the Faculty Senate of Oak Park and River Forest High School invited the candidates for the District 200 Board of Education to complete a questionnaire. The candidates addressed questions ranging from steps to meet the needs of all OPRF students to the role and responsibilities of board members. They also were asked to identify the chief challenges facing the school in the current financial and educational climate. The Faculty Senate Executive Committee was struck by the thoughtfulness and depth of knowledge displayed by the five candidates who returned their questionnaires. Not only does this diverse group share a commitment to and affection for the school, but each candidate also would bring valuable experience and talents to the OPRF school community.

 Dietra Millard

In her four years on the Board, Dr. Millard has shown her command of issues associated with instruction, finance, and policy.  She approaches every task with diligence and collegiality.  Those who work with her closely are impressed with her depth of knowledge, curiosity, and willingness to engage in honest dialogue with all members of the community, regardless of point of view.

George Bailey

Dr. Bailey brings a strong background in education and insight into the educational challenges facing this district.  We are impressed with his skills in human relations and commitment to the community and its relationship to the high school.

Terry Finnegan

Mr. Finnegan brings experience and expertise in the financial world and has shown a strong interest in understanding the various financial challenges facing the district.  We also recognize his standing in the community, inquisitiveness and open-minded approach to problem-solving, and commitment to developing strong relations between the school and community.

Vic Guarino

Dr. Guarino possesses a working knowledge of complex organizations demonstrated in both his career as a manager and history of service to the community. These skills, combined with his long standing commitment to educational excellence in Oak Park, give us confidence in his ability as a board member.

Amy McCormack

Ms. McCormack combines experience and expertise as a labor lawyer and a businesswoman. She also has shown leadership in running the District 90 referendum.  Her background and demonstrated commitment to education render her well-qualified to handle the responsibilities of fiscal planning in the school’s relationship to the community.

Each of the candidates is well suited to merit your vote.  Please take the time on April 7th to vote in this important District 200 Board of Education election.
