Products to Boycott

At the 2011 Illinois Education Association Representative Assembly, a new business item was passed that asked IEA to inform its members about some of the big businesses that are behind the current anti-public education push.

Specifically, the RA directed the IEA to let its members know about the Koch brothers holdings, the Koch brothers have been strong advocates of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker as he takes on educators and other public employee unions just north of us, and the Walton Family Foundation, the foundation established by the family of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton, which has long funded anti-public education programs.

Here is the exact wording of the directive:

“ The IEA RA directs the Communications Department to make known to members all Koch Brother Enterprises, Walton Foundation, as well as other entities that fund anti-teacher and anti-union campaigns, and the board of directors to encourage a boycott of their products.”

The information that has been found has been posted to the IEA Website.

An additional site was provided by one of our members regarding the Koch Brothers and can be accessed here.
