Welcome
John A. Logan College is one of the first colleges in the state of Illinois to have organized term faculty. It is the only such community college in Southern Illinois. In 1998, several part-time faculty became concerned about their responsiblities as faculty, as balanced against salary and rights. Aware that all other groups on campus were represented by unions, they decided to organize under the Illinois Education Association (NEA). The first contract featured improved salary and a broader range of salary tiers, a codified grievance procedure, sick days, and the title "Term Faculty"--which more clearly indicated our significance in and to the Logan community. Our new three year contract became official in August! And the 2008 ATF Officers Election results kept the same officers for another two years.
All term faculty members and non-members are welcome at the next monthly meeting in Carbondale at Spinoni's restaurant on Jan. 21, 2011 at 5:00 pm. Union membership is welcomed and open year round. We value your comments, suggestions, and/or problems.
In July of 2011, our contract with the college administration will terminate. This Spring we will need to negotiate a new contract to cover the next few years. In order to complete these negotiations to the satisfaction of our members, we need to know what you want. We have developed a short survey we need you to complete. We have included space for any additional concerns. You will be receiving this by email and campus mail soon. Please return the survey by Feb. 25. You can email it back, or print it off and mail it by postal or campus mail to John Montacue, IEA President. The survey information will not be shared. Thank you.
