If you have specific questions about unemployment, you will need to contact the State of Illinois Department of Employment Security (800-244-5631) and speak to one of their representatives directly.
Q. I have heard that you have to work 37.5 hours to get benefits. Is this true?
A. This is false. In the budget forums it was stated that Non-union employees are being looked at for this.
Q. At all the budget forums, they stated that the ESP locals will be taking a salary freeze. Is this True?
A. DUEA has not been asked to open their contract at this time.
Q. If the District does ask DUEA to open the contract and ask for a salary freeze, will the members vote on it?
A. Yes, the members vote on any chances in the contract.
Q : How do I calculate my paycheck?
A : Calculating your pay:
Number of Days you work X hours you work in a day X payrate divided by the number of Paychecks you receive (19 or 24)
Day count - everyone is 183 except for HSL(186) and Library paras(190)
Hours in a day - 6 for Elementary, 6.5 for Middle School and 7 for High School, HSL and Library Paras
Q : How long will my District Medical and Dental Insurance last?
A: By contract, the District will continue to contribute 90% of your medical insurance premiums through August 31, 2010. At that time, by law, you will be offered the option of continuing in the District plan for both medical and dental for up to 18 months under COBRA. However, you would be responsible for the full premium cost plus 2%. Life insurance can be converted at your expense.
Q : How long will my unemployment benefits last?
A: They will last until the District offers you a specific position for the
2010-2011 school year or until 26 weeks have passed whichever comes first.
Q: What is the recall procedure?
A: If you were hired on or before October 10, 2009, you will be placed on a recall list by seniority in the job classification from which you were laid off. You will remain on the recall list until offered a position or until the first day of the 2011-2012 school year. (Those hired after October 10, 2009, do not have recall rights.)
Q : Can I use my district seniority to bump somebody in a different job classification?
A: NO, but recent changes in State law may give you rights to be recalled to a different classification if there is a vacancy. DUEA and the District will be discussing how this new process will work.
Q : Can I be considered for openings in another job classification?
A: YES, but only after the recall list for the classification has been exhausted.
Q : How will I know a position is available?
A: Human Resources will notify you when positions are available; therefore, IT IS IMPORTANT: KEEP YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER ON FILE WITH HUMAN RESOURCES AT ALL TIMES…INCLUDING WHEN YOU ARE OUT OF TOWN.
Q : Will I have a choice of positions if I am recalled?
A: Not really. Be aware that if you refuse a position offered to you by the District, you have resigned from the District, are no longer on recall, and no longer eligible for unemployment compensation.
By contract, you can notify Human Resources by May 1, 2010, if you have any preferences of building, grade level, program, or geographic part of the District if different from your current assignment. However, there is no guarantee that the District will be able to honor these preferences given the large number of employees affected by these vastly different circumstances.
Q: Will the new Federal Stimulus Plan help me?
A: 2009-2010...Probably, but the details are still not clear. It appears that the Federal Government will subsidize COBRA costs up to 65% for the first 9 months, and the period for collecting unemployment compensation may be extended beyond the normal 26 weeks. It is to expire May 31st.
