A.E.A. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

 

1.What does A.E.A. stand for and what is the website address?

     AERO Education Association

     www.ieaaero.org

 

2. What does I.E.A. stand for?

     Illinois Education Association

 

3.  What benefits do I receive for being an I.E.A. member?

*       First and foremost, you are able to 'vote' and have a 'voice'. 

*       You can are eligible to be an 'Officer' of A.E.A.  

*       Liability Insurance - $1 million in coverage

*       Legal Assistance

*       Professional Development

4. I've got a problem, what should I do?

     The proper 'chain' of command when a problem arises:

     1. Talk with your supervisor first to try and resolve the issue.

     2. If you are unable to resolve the issue with your supervisor, talk

         with Mr. Brim

     3. If you are not satisfied contact your building rep or union officer.

 

Feel free to contact your building rep. or union officer at ANYTIME if you are uncomfortable with the above protocol or have any questions.

 

5.  What is the role of my Building Rep?

  The main role of a building rep is COMMUNICATION.  If you have any problems/concerns within your building you should talk with your building rep.  They are the building 'Liason' by identifying concerns/questions/issues that may arise within the building and sharing information with the A.E.A. officers.  They attend regular meetings throughout the year and communicate that information to the members in their buildings. They are also responsible for passing out materials, flyers...etc to their members.

7. I don't like the way I'm being treated, but I'm afraid if I

    speak up I'll get in trouble.

  Contact a union officer immediately.

 

8. How many sick days do we get? Personal days? And when

    can we use them?

   12 Sick Days and 2 Personal Days, 4 Bereavement days per year.

   Personal Days may not be used before or after a holiday vacation   

   period, or during the first and last week of the school year.
   Bereavement days may be used for a death in the immediate family
   or household (see AERO handbook).

 

9. What IEA Region do we belong to?

    A.E.A. belongs to Region 28

 

10. What is a Uniserv Director?

  The Uniserv Director is the person who is in charge of our local union

  through IEA.  Our Uniserv Director is Nancy Acosta.

12. How can I share an idea, comment, concern..etc?

*       Contact your building rep

*       Contact a union officer

*       Place your comment (can be done anonymously) in the A.E.A. mailbox at AERO

13.  What are my union dues?

Full-Time Certified Staff  = $621.00
Full-Time E.S.P. (Educational Support Personnel) = $344.50

14.  How do I login on to the “members only” section on the                                   

            A.E.A. website?

 1. Click on “members” at the top of the home page.

 2.  Register (have your IEA/NEA membership card handy)

 3.  Login
