IEA Members & Staff March for Fair Funding
Photo by Jack JanezicApproximately 1000 marchers, hundreds of them IEA members, participated Saturday in the first of many public events designed to bring about positive change in the way Illinois funds its public schools.
The march and rally, sponsored by the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, featured speeches from Rev. Jesse Jackson, IEA President Ken Swanson, Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan and representatives from many other organizations.
“This was a great day for the children of Illinois,” Swanson said.
“The march represented the first step down the long road that, we believe, will lead to passage of legislation that will allow every child in Illinois, no matter his or her zip code, the opportunity for a high quality education.”
