Kevin Robinson named IEA Teacher of the Year

A 27-year-old Collinsville teacher has been named Teacher of the Year by the Illinois Education Association.

Kevin Robinson, a fifth grade teacher at Dorris Intermediate School, was presented with the Bob Haisman Teacher of the Year award during a recent meeting of the IEA Regional Assembly in Rosemont, Ill.

Robinson is in his third year of teaching in Collinsville Community Unit District 10. He is a Collinsville-area native.

“I grew up in this area and I had great teachers,” Robinson said. “I wanted to come back to the community I grew up in so that I could give back to the community some of what they gave me.”

Robinson said the he enjoys teaching intermediate students but as the high school basketball coach he had the opportunity to work with older students as well.

“I have the best of both worlds,” he said.

Richardson is the secretary of the Collinsville Education Association and is vice-president of IEA Region 45.

The Bob Haisman Award is given annually to a new teacher IEA member who has shown outstanding accomplishment in his profession, in promoting public education, in enhancing the image of the new teacher in the school or the community and in involvement in his local, state and/or national association.
