Afterglow is going, going….

The surreal cloud enveloping state government since early December lifted over the weekend, revealing the wreckage that is our state’s financial situation. Talk about a buzz-killer.
Governor Quinn, as he siftes through the debris, is moving forward. On Sunday, the Tribune reports, he received a warm reception from the congregation at Chicago’s Salem Baptist Church, where state Sen. James Meeks (D-Chicago) is the pastor.
Quinn credited Meeks with pushing education funding reform. “We’re going to work very hard to make sure that every person gets the education they need for the fullest development,” the new governor said.
Similar words have been spoken before, but Quinn is definitely not “more of the same”. More here.
Since the average pension for a public education employee is far from exorbitant, do you ever wonder where people get the misimpression that benefits are way out of whack and unaffordable? Maybe its stories like this.
Finally comes news that our former governor will appear on the David Letterman show on Tuesday. Though Mr. Blagojevich essentially spun the same story in each of the 1,014 interviews he gave on national media last week, Dave’s not likely to let him off the hook so easily. I have my fingers crossed that the entrance music will be Dan Hicks’ “How Can I Miss You When You Won’t Go Away.”
