Millionaire Surcharge Advisory Constitutional Amendment
- Ballot Language
- Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to require that each school district receive additional revenue, based on their number of students, from an additional 3% tax on income greater than one million dollars?
- Talking Points
- This is the simplest and best thing we voters can do to help our schools and students. With this extra billion dollars, we can reduce class sizes, recruit and retain better teachers and upgrade classroom materials to help our students have a better chance to learn and prepare for careers or college.
- Millionaires have lawyers and accountants to help them get tax loopholes and breaks the rest of us don’t get. In Illinois, many millionaires pay just over 2% in taxes while the rest of us pay 5%. That’s not equal and it’s not fair. The 3% surcharge will help to ensure that the millionaires pay their fair share.
