Nicole Kurtovich, a 4th grade teacher in Pekin District #108, has been selected by the Illinois Education Association (IEA) as the recipient of the Bob Haisman IEA Teacher of the Year award for 2013.
In making the announcement, IEA President Cinda Klickna cited Kurtovich’s dedication to students and to the profession of teaching as hallmarks of a great professional educator.
“Nicole Kurtovich is an excellent example of the kind of great teachers who continue to come into the profession,” Klickna said. “In only her third year in the classroom, she’s shown that her passion, dedication and strong work ethic yield positive results for her students. We’re very proud to present her with this recognition.”
Kurtovich was an active member of the IEA student program while studying for her undergraduate degree at Illinois State University. She has served in a variety of roles in her local association.
Kurtovich was announced as recipient of the award at the IEA’s Representative Assembly last week in Chicago.
The award is named for former IEA President Bob Haisman.
